About Abdominal Splinting Exercises for New Mothers
Use this technique to repair abdominal separation after pregnancy. If you’ve been diagnosed with “Diastasis Recti”, use this “splinting” technique to help draw abdominal muscles back together.
So what we’re going to show you here is the technique called splinting. This is a way to help repair that abdominal separation we talked about last week. What you need is just a towel. You’re going to sit up, wrap this towel around you. Here you go. And then as you lean back down grab opposite into the towel with your hands, you’re pulling it across your body. From this position do a tiny crunch for me, pulling the towel. As you pull the towel it actually pulls your abdominals together like this. Take that again here. So she does the crunch. She pulls the towel, it slowly starts to knit and close that separation. One more here, exhale, tiny little crunch, pull the towel. This is called splinting. It’s something physical therapist do and you can do it at home.
